Spirituality
Tamilnadu is the birthplace of several Spiritual Leaders, guides and founders who made India a rich land of having different philosophical thoughts, culture and religions.
There are more than 33000 ancient temples which are in Dravidian style in Tamilnadu and each one has its own story which either relates to epics or history. Each year, lakhs of pilgrims visit Rameswaram to finish their Kasi-Rameswaram pilgrimage or to offer oblations to their ancestors. Of the 108 main temples of Vishnu (Divya desams), 84 are located in Tamilnadu. The state has countless Siva temples that have been sung by the Nayanmars.
The state is also a land of saints and great souls. The 12 azhwars (devotees of Vishnu), the 63 Nayanmars (devotees of Siva) and the 18 siddhas (perfected Siva devotees) were either born in Tamil Nadu or made TamilNadu their home.
More recently, several gurus such as Ramana Maharishi who taught self-realization to the world, the renowned yoga guru T. Krishnamacharya, the ashram of Aurobindo and the Mother and the Auroville centre, and the Dayananda ashram at Anaikatti have guided several seekers on their spiritual path. To this day, several spiritually-advanced gurus continue to guide earnest spiritual seekers.
If you are interested in visiting the ashram of a specific organization, we can arrange for comfortable transport. We also recommend a trip to Thiruvannamalai or one of the temple towns as part of your spiritual trip.
