Tamilnadu has deep rooted traditions of music both in classical and folk forms. Tourists from all over the world visit Chennai during Music season, to enjoy the live performances of artistes. The Thiruvaiyaru Thyagaraja Aradhana,attracts all music lovers and artistes across the country and renders Thyagarajana krithis in groups.
Bhajans are a devotional art form, where people sing and chant as groups. Aside from the bhajans on the streets every day during the month of Margazhi (December-January), several bhajan festivals also happen in Tamil Nadu. The Melattur Bagavatha Mela, the Alangudi radha kalyanam, Nagaiyanallur Seetha Kalyanam and the Thiruvisanallur Gangavatharana festival are a few such festivals.
In Villuppattu, the musician-storyteller uses an ornamental strung bow as a musical instrument. The state also is the land of several folk music instruments ranging from horn instruments to percussions.
