Creating Memories

Some of the best artisans in India are from Tamil Nadu. Several handicrafts have originated in the state and continue to be made and adorn the offices and homes of people worldwide. Some of the crafts with the GI tags awarded by Government of India are:

  • The Tanjore Paintings inlaid with semi-precious stone

  • The Bronze idols of Swamimalai

  • The ecofriendly mats of Pattamadai

  • The Nadaswaram musical instrument at Narasingampettai

  • The brass lamps of Nachiyar Koil

  • The brass plates and clay dolls of Tanjore,

  • The exquisite Temple Jewellery of Nagercoil,

  • The Sungudi Tie and Dye cotton material

  • Silk weaving at Kanchipuram and Thirubuvanam.

Other crafts such as the Kalamkari of Kodalikaruppur and the tribal shawls of Todas in Ooty are also popular among travellers. The DakshinaChitra Museum in Chennai has a display of artifacts and tools used in these crafts and is a must visit for any collector and connoisseur of crafts.

If you would like to see how these crafts are made or would like to add any of these artifacts to your personal collection, we can guide you to the right and authentic sources!
